This is exactly the sort of idiotic politics that Obama rails against so often, though he charitably uses words other than “idiotic”. Attacking something someone says for being painfully truthful seems to be a staple of the Clinton campaign: recently, they tried (and failed) to make people angry that he was right about stupid bible-thumpers.
Clinton’s support has come overwhelmingly from the uneducated, so maybe she’s right, and Obama is elitist. Forgive me for not thinking that drawing support from intelligent people should be such an albatross around a politician’s neck. It’s a shame that Obama has a lot of work to do shoring up his support in the Stupid-American demographic.
These Stupid-Americans live in a world of their stupid dreams where there are no black people. The small towns Obama mentioned are the kind like the one I’m from, with .61% of its population African-American, and where what he said about guns and religion is unequivocally true. Because there’s no black people there, people there—speaking as someone raised in such a bubble—assume there’s no such thing as racism. If a person never leaves this bubble, it’s awfully easy to assume that all the problems Rev. Wright talked about are just fabrications that “don’t actually happen” in America. There’s one problem with this conclusion: it’s stupid. Racism is a fact of life in modern America against which millions struggle every day, and to say “I’ve never see it, therefore you’re making it up” makes you a dumbass. All evidence points to an overwhelming gap between income, achievement level, representation in management positions and elected posts, et cetera, ad nauseum. This gap is the result of both racism from yesteryear—with its lingering self-esteem aftereffects—and racism of today. People who ignore this are idiots; idiots support Hillary Clinton.
If it’s true that Barack Obama is elitist, the flip side of the coin must follow: Hillary Clinton is stupidest. While it’s fallacious to assume that intelligent people should have the only voice in governing the country, assuming the opposite is, in a word, retarded.
