With the metal archives currently listing tens of thousands of official metal bands, you would think that all the good names would be taken by now. Not true! Coming up with new band names is easy; just pick a genre and follow the given template:
Death Metal: Random Latin Phrase OR name of a disease. Examples: Eo Ipso, Catalepsy, Myxedema, Semper Instans
Crappy Poser/Wannabe Death Metal: Blatantly Sacreligeous phrase. Examples: God Killer, Army of Satan, Blasphemy
Black Metal: Obscure “Lord of the Rings” reference and/or sound you make when trying to talk with a bunch of dental instruments in your mouth. Examples: Ered Luin, Khazad, Ach-Balak
Grind: Two or three gruesome/offensive words strung together, preferably including the word “anal.” Examples: Anal Explosion, Blood Corpse Puke
Hardcore: Some combination of words like “Dark,” “Murder,” “Bullet,” and “Butterfly.” Examples: Black Bullet Kisses, Dark Valentine Murder
Metalcore: A melodramatic prepositional phrase. Examples: Into the Pale Eyes of Eternity, Upon This Tortured Soul
European Doom/Goth: Fancy word for “sadness” and/or a Shakespeare Character. Examples: Despondancy, Othello’s Tears, Melancholia, Seyton
American Doom/Sludge: A “weighty” word conveying a concrete concept (usually a noun). Examples: Lunch, Hag, Dead Cat
Mallcore: An ordinary word spelled wrong and with randomly alternating capital and lowercase letters. Examples: KraKpYpe, skRiPchUrE, fAntOmmMmM
