Why Wikipedia Should Kill Itself, Twice
As scary as the idea of the government heeding a nationwide mandate is, think how inappropriate it would be if the government instead went with the minority who said, “Eh, I don’t really care, let’s keep it the same, sort of.” If we don’t have a democracy to listen to our demands and mandates, then what the hell is it there for?
To answer my own question, we simply don’t have a democracy. We have an arbitrarocracy.
Idiotic Argument
Your proposal weighs urban states more heavily than mine.
Why You Should Die In A Fire
…Yes, it does.
Idiotic Argument
That’s bad.
Why You Should Die In A Fire
Ummmm… no, no it is not. Because there are more voters there.
Idiotic Argument
If I have three rednecks in a cave, that should be equal to forty million latte-sippers in a coffeshop, if that’s the way the borders happened to be drawn hundreds of years ago for no particular reason.
Why You Should Die In A Fire
I have no riposte prepared to counter such an argument.
Despite the lack of attention paid to non-swing states, including rural states, rural voices add up in ways they never should. And their unenthusiastic voices are heard much louder than the voters in non-swing, but big, New York, which also gets paid no fucking attention. Neither the very rural nor the very urban gets anything, and while tiny states really shouldn’t have so loud a voice, New York abso-fucking-lutely should. Something is wrong when a group that nobody pays attention to during elections dictates policies after them.
Idiotic Argument
The E.C. neutralizes turnout differences between the states, and this is a good thing, because if Arkansas kind of prefers a flip-flopper to a black guy, that matters as much as if Illinois really really really wants that black guy to win. The ambivalence of Arkansans should be rewarded the same as the unprecedented registration drives and enthusiasm in Illinois.
Why You Should Die In Hurricane Katrina
No.
Idiotic Argument
It encourages the two-party system, and this is a good thing too! Think how bad it would be if competition from other parties forced the major parties to be held accountable to the people and stop pandering. Why, that might mean we could actually see real change in our politics! Scary, scary, scary.
Why You Should Die In 9/11
No.
