Eragon: A Pointless Review

Aside from these problems, it is a good read (or listen). Just don’t go in expecting something new and exciting. I was able to successfully predict the plot twists 95% of the time. And the 5% that caught me off guard weren’t life-shattering. There were several times where the characters might hear something outside of their camp, get ready for a fight, then find the source of the disturbance was a piece of slate dropping, or a tree groaning, or whatnot, and you got all worked up for nothing. It doesn’t even further the plot any. If it was supposed to make the book seem ‘realistic’ by having these events, I am not happy with the execution of the idea. Sure, if there were a group of people traversing great distances and hiding from everybody and everything along the way, they’d be overly paranoid and many of these situations would happen. But it doesn’t make for a good story to hear afterward. I can only hope that the next installments, Eldest and Brisingr (yes, without the e) can rectify the shortcoming found here.
